Bullsh*t Callouts
In-depth breakdowns of women's health conditions
Edition #1: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) (Carousel)

Welcome to the bullsh*t call-outs, a new series calling out the things health practitioners have told us & the media have propagated because it's easier to dismiss the root cause of women's health issues.
In our first edition, we're looking at polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common hormonal condition affecting up to 1 in 5 women & girls in their reproductive years. Up to 70% of women with PCOS remain undiagnosed.
We hope this is the start of a conversation showing how little research & development into PCOS is leaving us in the dark.
Ready to shake things up? Comment below on the thoughts & experiences you've had and recommendations on the things we need to look into.

Gender vs Pain

Fact: society ignores women's* pain.
Studies show that:
🍀 women's pain is considered less intense than men's even when they express the same amount (we're all just bluffing, right?)
🍀 women in pain are much more likely than men to receive prescriptions for sedatives vs pain meds (shhh, go to sleep)
🍀 women are considered more likely to benefit from psychotherapy vs meds than men (we're just too stressed & crazyyy)
Just therapy it away, or hit snooze 👶
And please, do us a favour, and stop your complaining.

Being Voiceless

On "giving a voice to the voiceless"...
No, no one's voiceless. We're systematically silenced.
No one needs to tell our stories for us. When they do, they can talk over us or provide a "solution" that's patronising or totally off the mark (more on that soon 🙄).
Instead, we need to reclaim our narrative & take the mic. We need to be inspired to speak out, have an audience that listens & a community to grow with.
And that's why we're here ✨
Zora's mission is to spread a conversation around healthcare for people who menstruate & ignite a new movement in health.
We HAVE to elevate, strengthen & amplify our voices together because they MUST listen. Our future depends on it.
Chat, shout, stay engaged.
It's time to revolt.

Short snippets spotlighting inequities in healthcare and stigma around common women's health issues
Gender Inequity in Health Research

Love how there's 5x more research into erectile dysfunction than premenstrual syndrome 💖
PMS affects 90% of women while ED affects 19% of men—so the maths clearly adds up, no questions asked 🌚

Representation Spotlights
Spotlighting women, trans, gender diverse & non-binary folks who set an example for the health equity and justice we aspire to uphold
Laverne Cox

Representation matters.
Because we’ve read that women, trans men & non-binary people are 5x more likely to feel unheard when seeking reproductive care. FIVE times. Cinco. 💀
The same study¹ adds that:
🤐 20% felt they had raised a trivial issue during a consult (“is this normal? it’s probably fine, all good, no worries”)
😒 23% were disappointed in how their concern was handled (“th…thanks a lot, doc.”)
Ignored, dismissed, misguided… invisible, and erased.
Having been bounced from doctor to doctor ourselves, we know that feeling all too well.
And we’ll be small no longer.
Zora is a movement in healthcare co-design with menstruating people at its ❤️, fuelled by our fury & passion to see a change in health because we’ve waited around long enough.
We’re taking matters into our own hands, creating science-backed health & self-care solutions centred around your individual needs, listening to your unique story & your legitimate health concerns.
Because you matter to us.
Stay posted ✨

Zora Health: Startup Spotlight

What’s in a name?
Zora means “dawn” in Slavic, Arabic & African languages. We’re creating a new dawn in healthtech & media for people who menstruate—more empathetic, inclusive, and meaningful.
The status quo isn’t good enough but you know what they say: it’s always darkest before the dawn.

The Untamed Woman (Carousel)

Untamed: being free to live your truth.
We first came upon the idea of untaming in Glennon Doyle's memoir Untamed, Adele's "book that changed my life". We're sharing a little about this concept that colours everything we do 🖌️✨
New York Times bestselling author, speaker & activist Glennon Doyle (@glennondoyle) advocates for us to "stop pleasing, start living" by liberating ourselves from society's expectations & listening to our own inner voice to guide our lives.
Sharing her story, Glennon has been recognised as one of Oprah's SuperSoul 100, a collective of 100 innovators & visionaries using their voices to move humanity forward 🌟
She's one of the reasons why we NEED to lead a movement in untaming healthcare, by discussing what's harmful & downright bullsh*it about perceptions, stigma & shame imposed by society on women, trans & non-binary folks—because we all deserve to be free & be who we truly are.
Thank you, Glennon, your voice inspires us to find our power.
